Addictions start as coping strategies but can quickly become problem behaviour.
Some addictions may cost you money, your job, your relationships with loved ones and even your mental and physical health.
When we think of addiction we generally focus on alcohol and drug addiction, and this is the majority of my work in addiction recovery, but they can also take the form of behavioural addictions such as shopping, eating, sex, porn, and gambling.
Sugar addiction is also a big problem in our society that causes many health problems.
Addictions can be difficult to break as they help us cope with underlying emotional issues, or so we believe, and give us a sense of temporary relief and pleasure, which is more about relieving cravings than anything else.
The deeper emotions underneath an addiction can be unresolved grief, childhood trauma, fear of rejection, and abandonment issues, to name a few.
You may not consider yourself to have an addiction, but if some problem or habitual substance use or behaviour is having a negative impact on your life, which is probably why you are reading this page, then maybe now is the time to make the changes and to start living life free from addiction or problem behaviour.
Addiction treatment can be expensive, especially drug and alcohol rehab, which can cost many thousands of £££’s, depending on the length of stay. This is usually because it includes accommodation and food costs, as well as wages for multiple staff, building rental, utility bills etc.
Unlike my work in Psychotherapy, I offer a different model here that takes the form of a recovery program rather than pay-as-you-go weekly sessions. This is because commitment is the most important part of the recovery.
I offer a 12 week program where we can talk regularly in therapy either online, telephone or face to face. The work would also include Hypnotherapy to access the subconscious mind , Mindfulness for relaxation and relapse management, as well as structured counselling and coaching sessions. Group support sessions will also be offered with others undertaking their own recovery. There will be one 50 minute therapy session per week (or alternate weeks with group therapy) Worksheets and email support in between.
